80s Video Games
I have to admit that I’m not the most tech-savvy person and, often enough, modern video games prove difficult for me. But back in the ’80’s and ’90’s I was a video game wizard! To us, they were so hard but after seeing modern game set ups…we really had it easy!
The Arcades Was the Hot Spot!
Arcades sure did thrive back in the 80’s and 90’s but if you wanted to play a video game…that is where a lot of kids had to go. Most families could not afford the set up required.
Home Set Up
Back in the day there were no ergonomic grips or the ability to save your spot mid game. There was, however, a cartridge, a joystick, a paddle control, and a rainy afternoon spent playing Pac-Man or Donkey Kong.
Video game consoles were also extremely expensive 25 years ago, so not everybody had one, but most kids knew someone who did. Also, a lot of families in the 1980s had their console hooked up to a spare television in the house if they had one, which was often a black-and-white set. Some parents wanted to keep the main TV free, while others were concerned that video games would mess it up!
Not Just For Kids
When I asked my dad for help to show me how it all works…he kind of took it over. Maybe that’s how my dad become such a great wild game hunter. he had practice on MY game system!
So how will children of today fare trying to play ’80s video games? Take a look and immediately feel ancient. Hope you get a chuckle out of this “Kids vs. ’80s Video Games.”
